ROTARY SHAFT OIL SEALS

OIL SEALS
Rotary shaft oil seals are used for sealing rotating machinery parts; they consist of a flexible rubber sealing lip, a stiff metal casing and a garter spring. See the below list to find out the three standard types.
TYPE-R21 (TYPE-CB)
Also known as Type-A or Type-WA and with a rubber covered case, this is the most common and versatile type. The rubber covered case provides effective protection against corrosion and offers good sealing round the housing.
TYPE-R4 (TYPE-BB)
Also known as Type-B or Type-WB and with a metal case. These can enable easier fitting, however this type demands closer tolerances in the housing bore to ensure and effective seal on the outer diameter.
TYPE-R6 (TYPE-DB)
Also known as Type-WC and fully metal encased. Similar to Type-R4, with a protective reinforcing cap which makes it particularly good in rougher operating conditions as the sealing membrane is better protected.

All of the above types can be supplied with an additional dust lip providing extra protection against dirt and corrosion.
MATERIALS
The majority of oil seals are made using NITRILE rubber and mild sprung steel springs. The second most common material is VITON rubber and these come with stainless steel springs as standard. Other materials such as silicone and EPDM are available. Graphite-PTFE oilseals can be made to order usually taking one week for delivery.

AR Bearings stock all the standard metric and imperial sizes combination, many non-standard sizes can be sourced or even made order.
SHAFT REPAIR KITS FOR ROTARY SHAFT SEALS
Restore worn shafts to perfect condition

Worn shafts which give rise to defective sealing can be quickly restored to perfect condition, creating the perfect sealing surface without the need for regrinding and hardening.

A SPEEDI-SLEEVE is quickly and easily fitted, often without the need for dismantling the machinery in which they are used, this reduces maintenance time and cost.

SPEEDI-SLEEVE's are hard-wearing thin walled stainless steel sleeves with a high quality finish, which are simply pushed into position over worn shafts creating the original perfect sealing surface. No pre-treatment of the shaft is required, a fitting tool is provided with each sleeve.

SPEEDI-SLEEVE's are often fitted from new as it is more cost-effective than hardening and polishing new shafts.

Once in place the original size seal can be used, eliminating the need to resource new seals, which is often the case when worn shafts are reground. However we would always recommend that new seals are fitted if the originals have been running on worn shafts.

SPEEDI-SLEEVE's are produced in over 200 sizes to fit shaft diameters from 12mm – 200mm (0.469” – 8.005”).
